Write a short summary of what happens in the film

On a remote beach, a unit of Royal Marine Commandos silently infiltrate a pirate cam, capturing the captain while his men are busy working. In a panoramic sweep, we see the pirates scramble to find their captain as the spot ends with the tagline “You won’t see us coming, you won’t see us leave”.

Cultural / Context information for the jury

The Royal Navy has launched a recruitment campaign with the tagline, ‘It’s a State of Mind’ to show the stealth and fearlessness that the Royal Marine Commandos have.

Tell the jury about the elements of sound design.

In the Royal Marines ‘Pirates’ film, there was no sound recorded on set. The job was to create a 360 degree world that drew you in as the camera passed throughout the camp. All of the foley and voices were recorded from scratch, as was the menacing electronic tone that builds throughout the piece. The only sounds that were sourced from the library were the jungle atmos and boat sounds. There was a great deal of care and attention taken in the off camera sounds as well, with nearly every sound in this spot audible from start to finish.
