Write a short summary of what happens in the film

In the film, we first see and hear renowned musician Dominic Seldis (Royal Dutch Concertgebouw Orchestra) talk about how he arranged a symphony with only motorbikes as instruments. What then unfolds is a performance by a group of 15 motorbikes who play Richard Strauss' Also Sprach Zarachustra. The music video is to commemorate men who suffer from cancer and to raise awareness for the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, a global fundraiser event for the Movember Foundation.

Cultural / Context information for the jury

The organizer for the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride Amsterdam, Rusty Gold Motorshop, wanted to ensure people joined the fundraiser ride for the right reasons – to create awareness for men’s health problems and to collect funding. In previous years, many people joined the ride whilst not making any donation at all.

Tell the jury about the choice of music track.

We chose Richard Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra because this classical piece has elements that have a natural resemblance to the sound of motorbikes. It also perfectly builds anticipation which makes our online audience want to watch the video until the end. It allowed us to introduce the lighter bikes first, then have the rumbling sound of choppers, all leading to a grand finale with the full gang of motorbikes going all out. Together with a sound engineer, the composer replaced the traditional classical instruments with the recorded sounds of various exhaust pipes, from high pitched cafe racers to rumbling choppers. We recorded all the bike sounds separately during the film shoot. For each motorcycle we recorded a low, mid and highest note it could produce. For example; The dominant role of the timpanis was replaced by two motorcycles specially selected for this.
