Write a short summary of what happens in the film

The focus of the film “The Gate” is the front singer of a band. She is lost in the mayhem of the Internet. Countless different iconic internet characters force their way to far too small exits. Parallel to this we see a young woman in the real world who is trying to stream a music video on her Laptop. While the Band – lead by our protagonist – hopelessly fights their way to an internet access point, our real-life girl connects the Vodafone GigaCube 5G at her home. The redemption in the manifested internet hall comes in the form of a huge gate connecting the two worlds. The content is literally sucked from the internet and the band ends up as the long-awaited music video on the young woman’s device.

Cultural / Context information for the jury

Germanys landline Internet compared to other countries is very slow. It even gets worse when you look at rural areas. Sometimes you can’t even watch a music video without continuous buffering, especially when other content is literally blocking the cable. Vodafones mobile network however covers almost every place in Germany. That makes the Vodafone GigaCube 5G the perfect substitute for Highspeed Internet over landline and the campaign tailor-made for the German market.

Tell the jury about the choice of music track.

Jax Andersons “Queen” was the perfect choice for the film because it musically and lyrically enhances the dramaturgy and fits the well-known „Sound Of Vodafone“. They follow a strict strategy for their music video style spots including upcoming newcomers with a progressive, electronic sound with international approach. The LGBTQ+ activist Jax Anderson suited best since Vodafone is actively involved in female empowerment. As the female protagonist represents „internet-content“ struggling to reach its consumer, suitably the lyrics are about a woman fighting to be heard - which opens a great meta-level for the film. Within the spot, the song is performed in music video style - therefore we chose a female voiced band that fits to the look of the on-screen band. The track had to be as floating as a film score by building a futuresque suspense until the showdown when the gate is opened in a conclusive impulse.
