Write a short summary of what happens in the film
Under the motto “As electric as it gets.” a trio of electric eels is rapping about electricity in a humorous music video. Funny lyrics combined with electro 80s hip hop tunes deliver the literally shocking news: smart will be fully electric by 2020. Quirky faces with voices inspired by rap legends like Grandmaster Flash or Eazy-E rap puns about e-mobility and get priceless reactions from other sea animals. They do cool dance moves, create electric shocks, try on sun glasses, have a headbanging session and bite into an anchor that electrifies all oceans.
Tell the jury about type(s) of animation used and summarise any relevant challenges or techniques.
As much as we would have loved an electric eel rapper gang to be real our underwater gangsters were actually 3D printed silicone eel puppets hand painted by a creature designer and creator. In combination with CGI lightning effects, realistic videos and an analogue underwater world a whole new and own look & feel was created. Through accessories like fish hook piercings and shark tooth chains every eel developed into its very own character. This is how the video accomplishes to underline the brands quirky tonality without having to show a smart.
