Write a short summary of what happens in the film

History isn’t a static timeline that stops at the present day. It’s an ever-evolving collection of stories. Every moment that we think of as “history”, was once thrillingly current and new. Nowhere is this more evident than Wimbledon: the most prestigious tennis event on earth. Their story began in 1877 and they’ve been making headlines ever since. From newspapers, print and broadcast, through 24hr-rolling news and into the online era. Their greatest moments have shared space with the moon landings, the ascent of Everest and the invention of the World Wide Web. And as new championships throw up new heroes and new stories, they’ll continue to do so. Through this unique lens, we aspired to create an awe-inspiring launch trailer, with a story for all ages. An obsessively craft-driven piece that represents Wimbledon’s ongoing pursuit of greatness.

Tell the jury about type(s) of animation used and summarise any relevant challenges or techniques.

As landmark moments from The Championship’s history are layered with historical news stories, the film becomes a series of visually arresting tableaux, each recreating era-defining moments of human endeavour. An innovative hybrid of craft, including: photography, live action, typography, 3D printing, model making, archive sound, engineered SFX, as well as post-production techniques, were all utilised. And, state-of-the-art VFX allowed static archive imagery to be projection-mapped onto CGI wireframes – and therefore historical moments that were never filmed, are brought to life for the first time in cinematic slow motion. The result was a film for fans of all ages, with a story for the ages. A monumental, craft-driven piece that is yet another Wimbledon moment in pursuit of greatness.
