Cultural / Context information for the jury
The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) is a non-profit organization that seeks to protect and preserve the oceans’ marine life and ecosystems.
Explain how the work innovatively used the print / publishing medium.
Failure to act against the threats to endangered species will result in their disappearance. To give new meaning to this oft-repeated fact, we turned the limitations of printing on stapled magazines and newspapers into a powerful visual element across pairs of adjacent print adverts. These presented iconic sea creatures whose forms were apparently obscured by the obligatory blank, white space of the centerfold between the two panels.
