Hebrew Wikipedia Breaks some Common Myths: The Great Wall of China is not actually seen from outer space, and Napoleon Bonaparte wasn’t that short – these are but two of the refuted myths in a new campaign for Hebrew Wikipedia:
“Like it or not. That’s the Truth, ”.
Wikimedia Israel, a non-profit that supports and promotes Wikipedia in Israel, celebrates 18 years of Wikipedia in Hebrew, and 20 years of the entire Wikipedia, by launching a campaign to commemorate the special role Wikipedia plays in enriching our knowledge, and especially in breaking some common myths in an era that is full of fake news.
This campaign highlights the credibility of Wikipedia’s contents, which has become well established over the years, by presenting common myths often perceived as “truth”, whereas the actual facts presented in Wikipedia prove them wrong and tell the real story backed with data and reliable information.
Wikipedia’s Hebrew-speaking volunteers toil for over 18 years to build the vastest free-knowledge repository on the net, which we all use on a daily basis. After four consecutive election campaigns that featured massive use of false news and fake information, a unique opportunity has arisen in Israel to mark Wikipedia as a reliable source of information.
In these celebrations and this campaign, we would like to remind the general public about the contribution Wikipedia and its editors have made to enrich the Hebrew contents and pool of knowledge, in the most reliable, established and accessible manner, free of any charge”.
