Write a short summary of what happens in the film
It Is the true story of Rosemarie, who was born in post-war Germany. She grew up in East Germany. Her family ran a successful clothes shop, but were threatened by the secret-police. The family fled to West Germany and re-opened their clothes shop, Adler. However, Rosemarie had needed to leave her fiancé behind, and missed him greatly. As a result, she went back, married him and had a son. Rosemarie got on very badly with her mother in law and needed to leave the family, ALTHOUGH SHE WAS PREGNANT AGAIN. HER BROTHER CAME FROM WEST GERMANY, she fled to the West for a second time with him, leaving her young son behind. She HAD HER SECOND CHILD, A DAUGHTER. ROSEMARIE spent a long time living in West Germany, then moved to Switzerland where she saw her son, WHOM SHE HAD TO LEAVE IN EAST. She currently lives in Cademario.
Cultural / Context information for the jury
Rosemarie lived in East Germany. The former German Democratic Republic (GDR) was a country in Central Europe from 1949 to 1990. The GDR was created in the wake of Germany’s division in 1945, after the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) had set up a dictatorship at the request of the Soviet occupying force, which lasted until the Peaceful Revolution of autumn 1989. A key organ of the state was the Stasi, the much-feared secret police, who spied on their fellow citizens and subjected them to threats. The dissatisfaction felt by East Germans led to increased numbers of people fleeing the country, with the Berlin wall constructed in the hope of preventing this.
Tell the jury anything relevant about the direction. Do not name the director.
Based on 14 hours of interviews with Rosemarie, the main challenge for this project was condensing Rosemarie’s extremely eventful life into just two minutes. A beautiful montage done artfully. It was important for the audience to see the strong woman she is and emotionally connect with her. To accomplish that, we created powerful picture book frames, and if each image was conveying heaps of story then it would work.
Center frame compositions were employed so there is no effort required to watch the film. You look at the middle of the screen and you’re getting the story perfectly.
