Write a short summary of what happens in the film
This is a series of short documentaries showing typical Norwegian companies. We document their history, the close ties to the community and how important the company is for the lives and welfare of its inhabitants. We hear the CEO, the factory worker and the union representative alike tell us that easy access to their most important market (The EU), is of vital importance for the business. Without it, these businesses will in all likelihood disappear, and with them the whole community.
We strived for a documentarian and real expression in the films, to make them credible with a simple message that´s easy to understand.
Cultural / Context information for the jury
Norway has had two nationwide referendums on EU membership (in 1972 and 1994). The slim majority opted for staying outside the EU on both occasions. Instead, Norway negotiated and agreed on the The European Economic Cooperation deal, the so-called EEC-deal, with the EU.
Now, the EEC-deal is under scrutiny in Norway. The negative aspects of the deal are getting more and more attention with worker´s trade unions, and the Brexit negotiations in the UK is stoking this fire and posing the question: Do we really need this deal? This is of great concern for NHO.
A shift in Norwegian policy will make it much harder for Norwegian export businesses to sell their goods in their most important market – the European Union. NHO also considers pan national corporation, trade and supranational organizations as paramount for peaceful co-existence and a lowered level of conflict.
