Write a short summary of what happens in the film
2052 Surfers is a dystopian vision of surfing in the year 2052. Three surfers check the "surf plastic report" prior to paddling out. The report shows the horrifying high-levels of plastic and microplastic in the ocean.
Cultural / Context information for the jury
It is estimated that every month more than 1 million surfers check surf reports before they hit the beach. Based on this insight, we created this film that imagines a new kind of report that will exist in the future: the Surf Plastic Report.
The film was launched online in France and Spain for International Surfing Day on June 15. It was also premiered at the Barcelona Surf Film Festival on June 8.
The Inertia 'The Definitive Voice of Surfing' wrote "the idea of checking the 'surf plastic report' is well taken", while #1 World Surf Report Magicseaweed said "Ocean52 let surfers lead the change."
World famous surfing magazines like Surf Session, Mar Gruesa, La Mono, Wavecation, Hardcore Brazil, Espiritu Aloha Perú, Olas Perú, Surf30 Spain, and more wrote articles about it.
Please tell us about the social behaviour and / or cultural insights that inspired your campaign
Surfers are perhaps the first ever athletes in using data and information in order to perform their activity. It all depends on the sea conditions, the size and shape of the waves, the wind and the storms. For this reason, surf reports were invented, so surfers could choose where to go and ride waves.
Based on this insight and information, we created this film.
