Please tell us about the cultural insight that inspired the work
Oslo isn’t exactly an architectural masterpiece
We don’t have the biggest stars or the tallest skyscrapers.
And to be honest, our public art isn’t the greatest in the world either.
But we have something else, that is a big part of the local peoples identity: unique local stores, cafés, and bars can be found all over Eastern Oslo. Locals take pride in this.
While losing one local shop to the pandemic is sad, former incidents have shown that what really pisses urban Norwegians off - is having a generic chain moving in.
Even though buying a "Big chain burger" can be a guilty pleasure sometimes, a lot of Norwegians take pride in distancing themselves from American culture and generic chains - and local places actually tend to win the battle even though they are more expensive.
The only problem is that when the signs are up, it's usually too late.
