The choice of song was fundamental to the formation of our creative idea.
If the rainbow flag is a powerful symbol of LGBT+ pride and progress, then ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ is an important reminder that there’s still a long way to go. Thousands of LGBT+ people still face discrimination and prejudice on a daily basis, but together we can create a happier and more inclusive future.
The song played a vital role in creating a narrative arc to our story, as members of the LGBT+ community overcame discrimination singing the song with increased pride. We partnered with Soundtree Music to compose a beautifully stripped back re-record of the original licensed track. Layering it with recordings of the actors on the day to give the film an honest, and authentic feel. The resulting piece of music is uniquely human and real whilst building to an uplifting crescendo swelling with pride.
Write a short summary of what happens in the film
Pride in London is a vibrant and colourful celebration of the diverse LGBT+ community.
But behind the rainbow flag and carnival atmosphere is an important purpose, to remember the historic fight for equal rights and continue to campaign for a more inclusive future. Despite the perceived gains made by the LGBT+ community, many people still face discrimination and prejudice in 2018. We wanted to remind people that Pride in London is more than a party – it’s an act of protest and a promise to help change the world. We chose ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ as a powerful and moving anthem of defiance, urging people to fight for a happier and more accepting society.
