Write a short summary of what happens in the ambient or digital execution or campaign.
The Home Weather Machine was a special built outdoor that invited holiday goers to experience their actual home weather. By entering their home town into a special developed app, the machine could replicate the weather using an online weather service. It could simulate all kinds of bad weather - from rain and wind, to thunder and lightning, fog and snow. To make this happen we transformed a traditional adshel into an interactive installation using wind-machines, water-sprinklers, air-coolers, speakers,lightning-effects, smoke machines, a custom made snow simulator and a lot of 3D printed parts. The Machines built-in computer was coded to retrieve real time weather data and translate it into an tangible experience. We also added a little extra rainwater from back home to make the experience even more authentic. It’s one thing to see the bad weather at home, but another thing entirely to feel it on your own body.
Cultural/Context information for the jury
In cold Northern Europe we spend most of the year inside, hiding from bad weather. So when we go on holidays, the weather means everything. In fact it means so much that we constantly check up on the weather back home while on holiday. It’s not something we’re particularly proud of, but bad home weather actually makes the holiday better.
A Cint survey from 2018 confirmed this insight by showing that 47% of Northern Europeans
admit to enjoying their vacation a lot more, when the weather back home is bad. So to boost the holiday experience for our guests we invented “The Home Weather Machine”.
