Cultural/Context information for the jury
The Antiquarian Book Fair in Zurich invites visitors to discover valuable books by the greatest writers, scientists and artists of all time. Following the long tradition of Swiss graphic design, this unique cultural event was advertised on billboards showing bookshelves in a minimalist visual style, blending in with the straightforward Helvetica typography. Looking at it is an almost performative experience: The viewers discover the text on the billboard in a similar way they discover books browsing through the shelves of the fair. But most striking, of course, is the bit of copy that's set in shining colours inspired by highlighters. With a twinkle in the eye, it claims that Meret Oppenheim, Franz Kafka, Alberto Giacometti and many more famous people will be at the Antiquarian Book Fair too. Obviously not in flesh, but certainly in spirit, represented by their books.
